We may freely say that nowadays Rakovica is well-known by these famous caves.
Barac´s Caves:
After centuries of lack of concern our pearl that has been compared to the Plitvice Lakes has finally been put in order ond is open to visitors. For a guided tour 200 m of the caves have been regulated.
The professionally guided tour takes 40 minutes.
The Plitvice Lakes:
Let's take a walk through this unique harmony of natural beauty. Let's enjoy this inestimable gift of nature all year long. Each of the four seasons has its own little story of different colours, sounds, patter of the waterfalls, odours and quietness -life in a word. There are sixteen blue-green lakes connected to each other by a series of waterfalls, resembling a pearl, all embraced in a magic greenery of the forests and meadows. Every nook and cranny of this rich vegetation is a wonderful place for birds, butterflies and game of all sorts to live. Words fail to describe the beauty and harmony of the Plitvice Lakes. Come and enjoy this intact primeval nature.
Slunj & Rastoke:
City Slunj is situated above the rivers Slunjčica and Korana in pitoresque area by main road to Plitvica lakes, middle and south Dalmatia. . It takes possesion of 401 square km, and from inventory in 2001. it has 6096 inhabitants.
Slunj is frst time mentioned in 12th century, and old walls of Frankopan fort on rocky hill above river Slunjčica still testify about old wild history. Old fort is historical centre of aristocratic famils Krčkih - Frankopana, and is first time mentioned in 15th century. Under its protection town on the other bank of river Slunjčica with franciscan monastery grows. During 16th century place is destroyed because of war with Turks, , and fort is becoming a border defend fort. At the end of 17th century town is rebuilt and becomes todays town Slunj. It's interesting time of Slunj during short Napoleon ruling 1809. - 1813. when it was eastern part of Napoleon impery. Alltohrough Napoleons wars had ocupation meanings, they also meaned spreading of western ideas that impacted the economy and social life of this area. In those time were built new roads, new bridges, and warehouses for grains. Some of those warehouse wlls can be seen also today.
Nature beautys were always atractive to passangers and inquisitive persons. The pearl of Slunj, water - mill settlement Rastoke, is made by interesting play of nature which overflows green - blue watters of Slunjčica over the seder cliffs into river Korana, and creates many waterfalls, little lakes, cascades and rapid sterams. Three hundred years ago that treasure of little islands and steep rocks has entangled into water - mill colony with water - mills, stamping - mills and big baskets for corn storage. Harmony between man and nature is old over thousand years, and exists also today.
In Slunj, town of saved nature, there are many opportunities for relaxing and having fun. During summer river Korana is paradise for swimmers because water temperature grown 'till 28 C degrees. Except swimming and rowing in slowflow parts of the river, Korana is very fast and wild in some parts, so very suitable for cajacing and canuing, which gives high feeeling of adventure tourism. Koana is rich with all sorts of fish.
Harmony and rich nature on the most beautiful way present river Slunjčica with its spring which is like blue-green small lake under high cliffs. Its very atrctive to fishermen because first class quality of creek trout. Beyond the fishing, area of Slunj offers possibility of hunting. From wild animals most of them are wild boars, rabbits, partridges and game like deers and fawns. Those who stops in Slunj during the travel, will find pleasure which can be given just by untouched nature with green forests and clean waters. Trail Ridding:
Riding through forests, meadows, fields, mountain paths and river valleys, you will experience the marvelous diversities of Mount Velebit and the surrounding landscapes where the legendary movie Winnetou was filmed. Experience the fresh air, the silence, birds singing and clean nature with wonderful breathtaking landscapes. Riding through the nature is least disturbing to the animal world and enables you to experience the wildlife from up close. Intact nature along the edge of the NP Plitvice Lakes and the beauties of Gacka and Lika river valleys, Krbava field, Velebit Nature Park and National parks North Velebit and Paklenica will give all nature admirers and horse friends an experience they will never forget.
Riding on calm horses for all ages from beginners to excellent riders. Riding school Countryside horseback riding in Ranch surroundings (1-3 hours). One day riding tours to the edge of the NP Plitvice lakes or to the Barac’s caves (5-7 riding hours). During this tour we visit natural and cultural monuments and have lunch in a restaurant or in the field. Riding tours (tracking) lasting 3 to 7 days include: 5 to 7 riding hours per day with a guide, sleeping in private accommodation with dinner and breakfast with the best homemade food from the area, lunch in the nature during resting periods, visiting natural and cultural monuments of following destinations:
