WHERE IS THE DISTRICT OF PERUŠIĆ
Perušić is a small place situated in the Lika basin within tha vast plain, at 593 metres above sea-level. By regional location within the Lika-Senj county it is located in the part of its central area.
The district of Perušić, with its marginal parts, borders on the towns of Gospić, Otočac and Senj as well as on the district of Plitvice Lakes. When you come to Perušić – nothing is far away anymore – the Adriatic Sea, Velebit, National Parks North Velebit and Plitvice Lakes, the Gacka Valley.
Perušić has very good road connections – it is situated at the intersection of important roads: the state highway between Otočac and Gospić, the motorway Zagreb –Split (exit Perušić) and the main railroad MP 11.

PERUŠIĆ – A HISTORICAL TOWN IN LIKA
Perušić is a place where the images of a rich and troubled past interweave, with landscapes of an intact and preserved nature, a place where people still live in a warmly and neighborly manner, and because of its size and a small number of ihabitants, who practically know each other, it has not acquired the outlines of a global, estranged and busy life.
The origin of Perušić as an organized community dates from the early 16th and 17th century, when this territory was located on the borderline between Turkey and Europe. Perušić is mentioned for the first time in 1487. It was established by brothers Dominik and Gašpar Perušić, who come from a noble family originating from Zagora. The town gets its name from their last name, and the family builds a fortress on the elevation that has different names in literature –the Old Town of Perušić, Gradina, but among people it is most commonly known as the Perušić Tower. When the Turks conquered Lika and Krbava, Perušić, as part of the Lika sandžak (military and administrative unit in the Ottoman Empire), becomes the central Turkish stronghold in Lika.
In the same period the Turks also owned the whole Kosinj region. They kept colonizing the desolate areas so they could establish their borderland toward Venice and the Hapsburg Monarchy. This borderland between the three great empires ( the Hapsburg Monarchy with the remainder of the Croatian-Hungarian Kingdom, Venice and the Ottoman Empire) was the scene of constant warfare. The liberation from the Turkish control in Lika began in 1685. The Perušić region was liberated by the island regiment, people under the command of priest Marko Mesić and the fugitives from Senj.
Shortly after the invention of the printing press, in the town of Kosinj near Perušić they printed the Missal according to the law of the Roman court or the Kosinj Missal (Catholic church book), one of the oldest printed books in Croatia and Europe, with numerous drawings and ornaments.

PERUŠIĆ TODAY
Perušić and its surrounding area represent a mosaic framework of natural and cultural-historical values. The original historical monuments like the Tower ( the old town of Perušić) and the parish church the Prominence of St. Cross are witness to the long period of organized life in this region. On the other hand, here we find the beauty spots of Karst underground which reflect themselves throughout the six caves and one pothole, the beauty spots of Karst above ground and the landscape value of the Lika river, as the source of the valuable lesson about the complicated patterns in the development of Karst relief, the unity and integrity of nature, the changing conditions in the environment and the sustainable development of Karst ecological systems.
There are 20 towns in the district of Perušić: Bukovac Perušički, Donji Kosinj, Gornji Kosinj, Kaluđerovac, Klenovac, Konjsko brdo, Kosa Janjačka, Kosinjski Bakovac, Kvarte, Krš, Lipovo polje, Malo polje, Mezinovac,Mlakva, Perušić, Prvan Selo, Rudinka, Studenci, Sveti Marko and Vukelići.
According to the last census of 2001 there are 3500 inhabitants in the district of Perušić. The fact that in 1910 there were 21 000 inhabitants shows the tremendous depopulation in this region.

We offer you not only accommodation but dining in our restaurant where we prepare our food mainly from domestic raw materials. Accommodation is suitable for guests who enjoy nature walks, hunting, or for believers who want to visit Medjugorje. Our accommodation capacity is 25 persons (bus).
