Postira was first mentioned in the 14th century. Postira is a little Mediterranean town located on the northern side of the island Brac , 8 kilometers from Supetar. Coming out from the clear blue of the Adriatic, Postira climbs up the hill to embrace the centuries old olive fields and pine forests that partly replaced dead vine and also it comes into the fertile valley of vine yards and tangerine to the south. Postira stretches their roots deep into the past, which testify three early Christian localities and among them the most famous are the remains of a basilica in Lovrecina, a bay with a source and a very beautiful sandy beach.
Postira is beautiful in every season! The village is decorated even in January with the almond-bloom. When the crazy time of carnival stops, and the cold northern bora winds clear the sea and the landscape, the vineyards and the fig-plantages put forth buds, and the meadows become green. Young sheep were born and sage, heather and the yellow glister are .... the nature.
In the summer Postira shows its hospitality. Many bays and beaches come to life by the variety of the domestic tourist offer. While the cicadas play their concert, you can hear also the song of travellers and smell the fresh fish from the grill.
Postira is beautiful also in the autumn. Left alone, it entertains itself with the vintage of grape, mandarins and olives, and the vineyards become lively by the songs of the hard-working people. The new cultivated plantages of golden-coloured fruits and the century old olive fields are filled with this the God given tree announce also new times of post- season and ecological tourism.
In the winter Postira isn't also without its magic: Christmas- Eve, the ethnic-colors of church rituals, the long evenings around the fire- place. The November rain covers the thirsty soil. And when for change the cold bora- wind touches the core of the bones, the wood collected in autumn burns, gives warmth and calls into the memory the ancient times of mythological Brac of whom the writer Vladimir Nazor, who was born in this little town, talks in his poem "Shepherd Loda". Postira ist ein kleiner Ort, der an der Nordseite der Insel Brac gelegen ist, zwischen Splitska und Pucisca. Postira wird zum ersten Mal unter dem Namen Postirna (von Lat. pastura - die Weide) im Jahr 1347 erwähnt. Unter den Steinhäusern der einstigen Bracer Großgrundbesitzer im Hafen hebt sich das Kastell Lazaric, mit seinem Renaissancengiebel hervor. Er ist mit humanistischen Zitaten religiösen Inhalts versehen. In Postira ist der grosse kroatische Dichter Vladimir Nazor (1876. - 1949.) geboren.
„Ich wurde in dem Städtchen am Gestade des Meeresbucht geboren. Vor ihm steht das Meer mit den Segelbooten, die vorbeifahren ohne – meistens – an die Mole gar anzudocken ; jenseits des Wassers das weite violette Festland, mit langem Bergkamm; hinter dem Städtchen eine mit dem Grün der Weingärten und Olivenhaine bemalte Karstgegend...“ - Vladimir Nazor, 1926.
Aus Postira kommen auch Pavao Gospodnetic, Bildhauer der an der herrlichen Kathedrale in Sibenik in den 1600-en Jahren gearbeitet hat; Nikola Lazanic, Bildhauer in Roma, in Dubrovnik und in Brac selbst, sowie der Dichter Ivan Ivanisevic.
Die Pfarrkirche St. Johannes Täufer wurde gebaut Mitte XVI. Jh.; barokisiert durch massive, mit Schießscharten versehene Apsida, und umgebaut wurde sie im Jahr 1873. Eine Spannenlänge unter ihrem Steinpflasterniveau wurden neulich die Mauer der frühchristlichen Kirche mit dem Begrabungsraum in der Kreuzform vor dem Altar, mit Taufkapelle und zwei Zisternen entdeckt. Oberhalb Postira wird gerade die Lokalität Mirje untersucht, an der frühchristlicher Klosterblock mit Kloster entdeckt wurde, das ursprünglich dem hl. Stephanus geweiht ist, mit dem Hausflur – Aussichtsstelle über dem an der Insel führenden Kanal. Etwas östlicher, in der wunderschönen Sandbucht Lovrecina, nebst aktiver Wasserquelle wurden Überreste noch einer frühchristlichen Einschiffskirche untersucht und präsentiert. Dieser Block, zusätzlich festgelegt, überlebte bis zum Mittelalter. An dem Buchtgrund werden auch die bedeutende Überreste des früheren römischen ländlich-wirtschaftlichen Komplexen untersucht, während sich im Meer die Reste einer antischen Mole befinden.
Touristisches Angebot von Postira, das sich auf der Unterkunft in den Hotels, Pensions und Appartements gründet, ist vorerst für ruhige Familienerholung bestimmt. Für Aktiverholungslieblinge stehen zur Verfügung Spielplätze für Basketball, Tennis und Boccia. In dem breiteren Umkreis des Ortes befinden sich mehrere kleine Buchten mit Kiessand- und Steinstränden, umgeben mit Pinienwald. Neben den organisierten Ausflügen in die Umgebung bieten auch Manifestationen im Rahmen von traditionellem Kultursommer die Unterhaltung während dem Sommer an, wenn auch die Volksfeste organisiert werden, die schon Jahrzehnten auf die alte authentische Art gefeiert werden. Traditionelle Kulturunterhaltungsmanifestation Postirsko ljeto (Sommer von Postira) umfasst auch die Feiertage des hl. Johannes Täufers, dem Schutzpatron der Pfarre (24. Juni), der Gottesmutter von Karmel (16. Juli) und dem Fest der Gottesmutter (15. August).
