Senj is a small coastal city situated at the foot of
Vratnik, the lowest summit of the largest Croatian mountain Velebit,
which is 1978. year from the UNESCO declared as a world biosphere reserve, and
Senj is ideal starting point for excursions and nature lovers. Due to its
favorable geographical position, the city has a reputation as an important
transit center of tourism on the Adriatic Highway, as well as a famous tourist
destination with a rich cultural heritage.

Area of the city and his surrounding extends through the 60 km coastline with
a multitude of bays and beaches. Here you can see many picturesque tourist
resorts: Sveti Juraj, Lukovo, Klada, Starigrad, Stinica, Jablanac and Prizna.
Also in nearby is the famous National Park Plitvice Lakes.

The simbol of the city is the fortress Nehaj, built in 1558. to protect its
citizens from the Turkish and Venetian attacks. It is built from the material of
the ruined churches and monasteries and its angles point to each side of the
world. The top of the fortress is a viewing pleatou where you can enjoy a
beautiful view on the Croatian coast and the islands Rab, Goli, Prvić, Cres and
Krk, on the mountains of Gorski Kotar, Učka and Velebit.

The city offers a multitude of cultural and entertainment events, such as
classical music concerts, art exhibitions, concerts of Croatian and foreign
artists and folk groups. Also, as an unforgettable event, it is necessary to
emphasize Senj summer international carnival which takes place each year in
early August and is included town in the family of the Association of carnival
cities in Europe.
